Dissertation Overview

Adding to this particular section is near the top of my to-do list. What follows is all pretty tentative.

Basically, I'm crafting an illustration and critique of engagement in economic development by public authorities. I'm focusing my research on a particular set of airport authorities within the BosWash Corridor of the United States.

I should probably get into my reasons for focusing on this particular set of authorities, within this particular region, but I'll leave that for later. For now, let's just say it has to do with convenience more than anything, though it's not lost on me that airports are key sites through which regions and cities engage with a global network of other regions and cities. Typically, this engagement comes in the form of economic competition, as regions and cities clamor for transnational capital investment.

Based on research into the current place and purpose of airport authorities within the economies, environments, and transportation networks of the BosWash Corridor, this dissertation suggests alternative conceptualizations of airport authorities and, indeed, of airports themselves.
